Lake Stafford

Right in the heart of Brooks, Lake Stafford is the largest lake in the community, and its paved recreation pathway is one of the most popular spots in town for getting outside. The trail loops the full shoreline, with benches scattered along the way for anyone who wants to slow down and watch the birds, or the water.

Bring your walking shoes, your bike, or your leashed dog. The path is wide, smooth, and stroller and wheelchair friendly, which makes it a go-to for walkers, joggers, cyclists, and rollerbladers alike. Birdwatchers should keep an eye out for the white pelicans that visit the lake from time to time, along with the waterfowl and songbirds that call the shoreline home.

Lake Stafford Park sits on the south shore and is the main day-use area, with picnic tables, grassy lawns, and a playground for families. Follow the path out toward the point and you’ll find a small lighthouse structure overlooking the water. There’s also a boat launch for non-motorized craft, so paddlers are welcome to put in.

When winter sets in, the city clears a skating oval and a separate kids’ skating area right on the lake, giving families another reason to bundle up and head down to the water. Ice conditions vary with the weather, so check with the city before you lace up.
