Ready to jump into the history of the Brooks Region? We get it, planning out the perfect historic adventure isn’t always easy, especially if you only have two days to do it. Worry not, history enthusiast, we took the liberty of arranging a step-by-step itinerary for your perfect two-day historic adventure in the Brooks Region.

Day 1

  • 9:00 a.m.

    Breakfast at Denny’s

    Kick off your morning with a delicious breakfast at Denny’s. Choose from breakfast favourites such as pancakes, bacon and eggs, omelettes and more to fuel your morning and prepare you for the fun day ahead.

  • 10:00 a.m.

    Brooks and District Museum

    Take a journey through the history and culture of the Brooks Region at the Brooks and District museum. Discover artifacts, documents, maps and pieces of natural history that bring the rich history of the area to life.

  • Noon - Lunch

    Good Bites Eatery

    Located in downtown Brooks, Good Bites Eatery is located just five minutes from the Brooks and District Museum. Family owned and operated, delicious meals are prepared in house with lunch specials running Monday-Friday.

  • 2:00 p.m.

    Brooks Aqueduct

    Dive into history at the Brooks Aqueduct. Built over 90 years ago by the Canadian Pacific Railway’s irrigation division, the Brooks Aqueduct was once used to transport water to the thirsty croplands of southern Alberta. Today, it is a memory of what was once an engineering advancement of its time. Guided tours are offered Thursday-Monday.

  • 3:30 p.m.

    EID Historical Park

    Jump back in time to the days of the pioneers, with this historic preserve. Situated on 17 acres of history, this Historic Park is home to the Scandia Pool Elevator, the first elevator in Alberta history to be declared a historic resource.

  • 6:30 p.m.

    Dinner at Indian Pan Flame

    Head back into the town of Brooks for authentic Indian cuisine at Indian Pan Flame. Choose from a variety of traditional dishes bursting with flavour, while soaking up the ambiance of traditional Indian culture.

  • 8:00 p.m.

    Check into the Heritage Inn and Suites for the Night

    This is the only boutique style hotel in Brooks, offering upscale amenities, contemporary décor, lovely service and friendly staff.

Day 2

  • 9:00 a.m.

    Breakfast at the Heritage Inn and Suites

    Enjoy a complimentary deluxe continental breakfast before setting out on day two of your historic Brooks Region adventure. Both hot and cold breakfast items are available.

  • 11:00 a.m.

    Blackfoot Crossing and Historical Park

    Enjoy an authentic Blackfoot cultural experience at this historical park. With unique exhibits and stellar performances, you’ll embark on a journey of culture and tradition from start to finish.

  • 1:30 p.m. Lunch

    Blackfoot Crossing and Historical Park

    Exploring a historical park can work up an appetite. Thankfully, you don’t have to go far for a tasty lunch. Enjoy a meal at the park’s restaurant, so you can re-fuel your body without having to re-fuel your vehicle.

  • 3:30 p.m.

    Bassano Dam

    Take the 40-minute drive along the Trans-Canada Highway to the Bassano Dam. Construction of the Dam began in 1910, with the opening date taking place on April 24, 1914. The dam serves a population base of 18, 000 people, all while making a beautiful historical attraction.

  • 6:00 p.m. Dinner

    Armando’s Bar and Grill

    Located in Bassano, enjoy delicious Italian dining at Armando’s. Choose from over 30 different pasta options, chicken, veal, steak and more.

  • 8:00 p.m.

    The Oasis Theatre

    Relax and unwind after an adventurous two-day experience and catch a movie at the Oasis Theatre back in Brooks.
